My Wii and DS make sweet, sweet love…
May 7, 2008
This morning, I awoke to find my Wii’s blue system light glowing. I brushed this off, since I subscribe to this service that sends me messages informing me of new Wii software releases, and I assumed this was one of those updates. But, earlier this evening, I turned my Wii on for some Mario Kart action and decided to see what the update was. It wasn’t for retail software releases.
It was an update for the new Nintendo Channel. I thought the only new channel Nintendo was putting out this year was WiiWare, for downloadable games (separate from their Virtual Console service). I downloaded it, performed th system update, and tried it out. And it’s pretty cool.
Basically, you’ve got a list of videos to watch that range from interviews to previews for upcoming Wii and DS games. Sounds cool so far.
Then there’s the downloadable DS demos, something that was promised way back when the Wii was first announced. I tried Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (pretty awesome, by the way), and it downloaded in about a minute. Right now, I’m in the process of downloading Crosswords DS, and I’m very pleased the with ease and speed of it.

Great job, so far, Nintendo. Now, if you could just let us use the SD card slot for storage…
